Miriam's birthday cupcakes!
My good friend Harmen's lovely wife Miriam is turning 23 tomorrow. So I've made her a special birthday batch of cupcakes.
Chocolate with white chocolate centre, chocolate butter icing topped off with chocolate and white chocolate bits and red sugar sprinkles. Shes a chocolate fan, so hopefully these pass the taste test (and escape being eaten by Sasha the dog :-)

Valentines Day
So I'm not a huge fan of Valentines Day, but after last year I started to see it as a great chance for some heart themed cupcakes! Last Valentines Day, my workmate Karen and I had a cupcake bakeoff, which our co-workers every so kindly offered to judge. While the vote seemed to go to me, everyone had to give Karen credit for the fact that her specialty is making the most amazing caramel slice. You can never eat one from the bakery after having hers!!
I'll post my effort for Valentines 2006 (single cupcake at bottom) and 2007 (cupcakes on doily at top). The 2007 ones were my most fancy so far - caramel flavour with jersey caramels inside, pink caramel butter icing with heart sprinkles! badass

28th birthday cupcakes

before he was my boyfriend Mike (aka Pink Box Guy) gave me special cupcake sprinkles for my 28th birthday, pink, red and CAR shaped ones. So cool! Here are the first batch I made with the car sprinkles, vanilla cupcakes with lemon icing.

I LOVE cupcakes!
Some people say its an obsession and maybe it is.
There is something about cupcakes, they are so dainty and cute, little works of art and unlike a cake where you share slices with everyone else, a cupcake is an individual treat, just for you. You don't have to share.
I've found the pic of the first batch of frog cupcakes I ever made. They started my cupcake obsession in the first place.
And a big thanks has to go to my friend Jane, who told me about a simple cupcake recipe she had. Her giving me that recipe started me on this journey and to this day its still the one I used 90% of the time :-)
